Though it’s possible that the new ending can still allow for the events of Dead Space 2, the entire crux of the sequel’s narrative is Isaac coming to terms with Nicole’s death and finding a truce with his hallucination of her. This being the main ending, along with several narrative adjustments to the campaign, allows for the events of Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3 to proceed as usual. In short, it very much looks like Isaac's gone over to the dark side!īy contrast, in the original ending of the 2008 game, and the main one for the Remake, Isaac wordlessly turns off Nicole’s looping suicide note, only to be assaulted be a more demonic hallucination of her.
In the Remake, we find Isaac covered in soot, still hallucinating Nicole as she talks to him distantly, eventually striding out of the shadows, asking him “Are we going home, Isaac? There’s so much work to do…” Eventually she comes over to him, affectionately touching his shoulder as he promises that he’s got to build something for her, “and I think you’re gonna like it…” he concludes with a menacing smile, before the camera pans to reveal his helmet off and Marker script everywhere. The escape from Aegis VII plays out normally, until the cut ahead to after Isaac’s flying away.
Instead of shouting at the Hivemind, “Well come on then, cause this? Is all I’ve got left!”, Isaac will declare, “It’s shown me what I have to do!” before proceeding with the boss fight as normal. In addition to this scene, there are a few altered lines for Isaac during the ending of the game.
